Progamme

AIDC’s new programme is articulated through the following vision and mission statements.

Vision:

A sustainable society free of racism, sexism, environmental degradation, oppression, exploitation, and alienation where people govern by participatory democracy are respected and free to realize their potential productivity and creativity.

Mission:

To strengthen the movement for social justice through the production of alternative knowledge and by enhancing the institutional capacity of Peoples’ Media Organisations and the communication capacity of progressive civil society organisations that facilitates a dialogue giving voice to the poor and marginalized locally and internationally.

Objectives:

Over the next period AIDC’s strategy will be focussed around the following key objectives:

  1. To produce and ensure progressive alternative perspectives and dialogue flow though Peoples’ Media and the commercial/public media that highlight issues of job creation, service delivery and participatory democracy.
  2. To enable Peoples’ Media Organisations (PMOs) as strong independent institutions able to respond creatively to the communication needs of poor and marginal communities;
  3. To enable enhanced communication capacity of Progressive Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) so that they enjoy the ability to amplify their interventions, to inform, dialogue with, and mobilize the majority of people.
  4. To enhance the personal communication ability of people working in identified organisations.

These objectives are given content through the interventions as outlined on the Projects page.

The strategy is underpinned by the following values:

Social & Economic Justice: In our conduct and interventions we will strive to create a participatory democracy free of racism, sexism, environmental degradation, oppression, and exploitation.

Self Actualization: In our conduct and interventions we will strive to create a world free of alienation where all are respected and free to realize their potential productivity and creativity.

Dialogical & Participatory Communication: In our conduct we will ensure our work incorporates feedback and builds the capacity of stakeholders by dialoging and reflecting on lived experience. Our interventions will strive to enable dialogical and participatory communication initiatives that give expression to marginalized voices that ensure people are active agents in the development of new knowledge and new realities.

Holistic Interventions: In our conduct and interventions we will strive to acknowledge that that every moment of every process is created by the dialectical interaction of the political, the organisational, and the personal. We will address all three dimensions in an integrated and ongoing fashion.

Collective Leadership, Partnership, & Accountability:
Individuals and organisations do not create social change in isolation. In our conduct we will practice consultative decision-making and team work. In our interventions we will wok in concert with other organisations, harnessing synergies, drawing or strengths, and remaining accountable to all our stakeholders.

Claim no easy victories. Tell no Lies: We will always act with truth and integrity, trusting that all stakeholders have the ability to engage responsibly with complex realities.
